FAMILY FAITH FORMATION AT THE CATHEDRAL OF MARY OUR QUEEN
Through the grace of the sacrament of marriage, parents receive the responsibility and privilege of evangelizing their children. Parents should initiate their children at an early age into the mysteries of the faith of which they are “first heralds” for their children. They should associate them from their tenderest years with the life of the Church… Education in the faith by parents should begin in the child’s earliest years. This already happens when family members help one another to grow in faith by the witness of a Christian life in keeping with the Gospel. Family catechesis precedes, accompanies, and enriches other forms of instruction in the faith. Parents have the mission of teaching their children to pray and to discover their vocation as children of God. The parish is the Eucharistic community and the heart of the liturgical life of Christian families; it is a privileged place for the catechesis of children and parents.
- Catechism of the Catholic Church 2225-2226
The goal of Family Faith Formation at the Cathedral is primarily to support parents in their responsibility to evangelize their children through catechesis and to empower our young people to enter into relationship with Christ and into communion with the Church.
The Family Faith Formation Program facilitates encounter with Christ and participation in the life of his Church both within the family and as a part of the wider parish community via a hybrid (at-home and in-person) formation model following the Word of Life Series curriculum.
Beginning in September and ending in April, the program alternates between in-person and at-home formation sessions. Over the course of the year, there are a total of 14 in-person sessions and 10 at-home sessions.

Important Note Regarding Family Faith Formation & Sacramental Preparation Programs:
The Family Faith Formation Program and Sacramental Preparation Program are separate programs. Per Archdiocesan Guidelines, children must participate in Faith Formation for the year preceding and the year of a Sacrament. Children not enrolled in Catholic school should, therefore, register to participate in the Family Faith Formation Program at the Cathedral for both first and second grade. Children enrolled in Catholic school are not required to attend a parochial Faith Formation program as their religion curriculum fulfills the Faith Formation requirement.
