Order your Cathedral CDs These exceptional recordings feature the splendid acoustics of the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen, featuring the two magnificent Cathedral organs, comprising 127 ranks, and performances by The Cathedral Choir of Men, Women and Boys. The cost of each CD is $15, and all proceeds benefit the Cathedral Concert Series. Misse B-Dur (or Harmonie-Messe) The Harmonie Messe, which Alfred Scheinrich has called "the most beautiful Mass after Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis," is the last Mass setting Haydn was able to finish, not only in a chronological sense, but also with regard to its level of artistry. The exceptionally rich scoring for wind instruments caused it later to be nicknamed the "Wind Band Mass" (Harmoniemesse). While this performance is accompanied by organ, it nonetheless is very convincing and in no way diminishes the grand splendor of this work. Recorded by the Cathedral Choir of Men, Women and Boys on November 10, 2002. A French Connection The Cathedral Choir, joined by the choir of the Church of the Redeemer and the gentlemen of the Ipso Facto Choir, from Boy’s Latin High School, perform Louis Vierne’s Solemn Mass and Charles Marie Widor’s Double Organ Mass. The recording also includes choral variations on Veni Creator by Maurice Durufle, with Gentlemen of the combined choirs chanting the plainsong verses before each variation. The recording was performed on October 19, 2003. Magnificat This outstanding recording features the Cathedral Choir of Men, Women and Boys performing the Magnificat by Johann Sebastian Bach accompanied by Orchestra. Also included on the recording is the Orchestral Suite No. 3 for Orchestra also composed by Bach. The recording was performed on March 21, 2004 which is the birthdate of the composer. |
