Suspicious Cheese Lords

The Suspicious Cheese Lords (http://www.cheeselords.org) is a male a cappella ensemble that performs concerts and provides service music for the Washington , D.C. metropolitan area. Specializing in music of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, their repertoire ranges from Gregorian chant to original compositions. The group’s name “derives” from a Thomas Tallis motet, Sucipe queaso Domine. Some observed while “translating” the title that Sucipe could be “suspicious”, quaeso is close to the Spanish word queso meaning “cheese”, and Domine is, “Lord”. Hence, the motet’s errant title “Suspicious Cheese Lords”, which in time became the group’s name.
