Misse B-Dur (or Harmonie-Messe)
by Franz Josef Haydn

The Harmonie Messe, which Alfred Scheinrich has called "the most beautiful Mass after Beethoven's Missa Solemnis," is the last Mass setting Haydn was able to finish, not only in a chronological sense, but also with regard to its level of artistry. The exceptionally rich scoring for wind instruments caused it later to be nicknamed the "Wind Band Mass" (Harmoniemesse). While this performance is accompanied by organ, it nonetheless is very convincing and in no way diminishes the grand splendor of this work. Recorded by the Cathedral Choir of Men, Women and Boys on November 10, 2002.
