Cathedral Preservation Trust:
Love, Sharing, Faith, and Commitment

For this generation, and the next, and the next ...

Think, consult, select a plan

Many of us who would like to give and yet feel we cannot, may be surprised at the opportunity presented by planned giving. Others may find the right plan enables them to make a larger gift because of the benefits of tax savings and income provided by some plans.

A specialist from the Preservation Trust will contact you with any additional information you might need and help you set up a plan. Or you may wish to consult your attorney or tax advisor.

All contributions are tax deductible and should be made to "Cathedral Preservation Trust".

Trees: A Living Memorial

The beautiful trees surrounding our magnificent Cathedral offer you a unique opportunity. You can choose to dedicate one as a living memorial of a loved one or to honor a group or person. As well as creating a singular remembrance, your memorial gift will help maintain the beauty and peace of the Cathedral grounds.

Your tree memorial will be carefully tended. If, for any reason, the tree must be replaced, it will be done free of charge.

Throughout the year,
They create a sense of peace
And moments for meditation.
The bright sunlight of early spring
Touches the first leaves
with joy of renewal.
There is awe of the work of the Creator
As the trees blossom with varied colors
In summer, trees suggest
a journey's pause
And a world forever green.
The sudden burst of vivid autumn hues
Brings reflective moments
With thoughts of life's harvest
and thanksgiving.
The empty branches, in winter,
Form patterns against the sky.
Delicate as memory, they reach out
In prayer that will be answered
For new life.
The Cathedral trees stand
Season to season
As living memorials
Of faith, hope, rebirth
And God's love.

Beauty To Be Restored
and Protected

The original plan for the Cathedral provided for landscaping the grounds surrounding the new structure with a "setting of harmonizing grace and variety." Over 30,000 shrubs and trees were planted, and carefully clipped hedges and lawn areas were created.

However, the generous bequest providing for the construction of the Cathedral complex, made almost a century ago, did not anticipate the ever-rising costs of repair and maintenance of the structure and the surrounding grounds. Controlling the costs resulted in a diminishing of the plant and tree population.

To solve the problem, a Preservation Trust was formed to fund the major repairs and maintenance required for now and into the future, based on a long range plan. This plan includes completing the original objective of a beautiful and inspirational setting for the Cathedral. Landscaping improvements with new plantings are already being implemented.

Much is left to be done, and maintenance must be diligent... All of us can help by contributing to the Preservation Trust.

Please contact parishioner Tom Frank or Director of Development Mary Miller if you are interested in a memorial tree. We will then work with the Cathedral’s Landscape Committee to select a tree and marker for your special tree.
