 Confirmation Requirements

The Sacrament of Confirmation marks an important moment in the life of a Catholic.  It completes the initiation process that began at Baptism, and it launches one into an active life as a member of the Catholic faith.  It is an exciting time of growth, responsibility, and commitment.

There are a number of components to our Confirmation program.  If you are interested in having your child confirmed next year, it is assumed that your child is a practicing Catholic: he/she participates at Mass every weekend and he/she is continuing to learn more about the Catholic faith in a formal Religious Education Program.  The basic requirements for the Preparation for Confirmation are:

•   Your child is at least in the eighth grade.
  

•   You are a registered member of the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen Parish.
  

•   Your child currently attends a Catholic School or attends a Religious Education Program and attends regularly.
  

•   Your child also attended and completed Catholic School/Religious Education last year.

The program itself will begin during the school year in October 2007 with the parent registration meetings.  Preparation activities take place from October through April.  The immediate preparation for Confirmation includes attendance at and participation in the following:

• Parent Registration Meeting

• Rite of Enrollment and Reception

• Confirmation Classes

• Ministry Project – 20 hours of service

• Retreat

• Sponsor Night

• Rite of Confirmation

To the left you will find more information regarding the calendar, Confirmation requirements and necessary forms.  The program itself will be explained during the mandatory parent registration meeting in October.  

The Parent Registration Meetings for Confirmation 2008 have already taken place. If you missed the meeting, please e-mail Meghan Cosgrove.

A link to the left includes a reflection on the question, “What is Confirmation?”  We encourage you to discuss this question with your child before he/she decides to enroll in the Confirmation Program.  You can also follow the links to find out more about the required Service Project. 

To help you in scheduling for the year, there is a link to all the  Confirmation dates. Permission forms and more detailed information about the retreat will be discussed at the Registration Meetings.  

The Rite of Confirmation will be celebrated on Friday, April 18, 2008 at 7:30 pm in the Church.
