Three stone panels behind the main altar symbolically relate the goals of Mass:

· thanksgiving

· adoration

· penitence

Adoration is symbolized by the Lamb of Sacrifice seated on the book of God's secrets, surrounded by 12 lamps representing the 12 Apostles, and 24 rays representing the 24 elders in the Book of Revelation. Through the Mass, we join in this heavenly worship.
To its right-hand is a symbol of our sorrow for sin (crown of thorns) and humble petitions (incense and arrows). On the open Mass book are carved the initial Latin words that were used to begin the most solemn section of the Mass, Te Igitur (literally translated, "Therefore, you-").
The panel to the left of these denotes thanksgiving, which is the literal meaning of the Greek word Eucharist. The chalice and the host represent our truest act of thanksgiving: receiving the Holy Eucharist in union with the rest of the Church.
