In the stone panel to the left, Saint Elizabeth Anne Seton is shown with three of the sisters from the order of the Daughters of Charity, which she founded. This panel illustrates the Church's role as teacher. The text is taken from the Mass honoring Saint Vincent DePaul, whose rule Mother Seton adopted for her Sisters.
The stone panel on the right is dedicated to the Sacrament of Holy Orders. Seen here is the first bishop of Baltimore and of the United States, Bishop John Carroll. He is ordaining William Matthews, the first native-born American priest to be ordained in the United States. Also seen are Sulpician priests and classmates of his from Old Saint Mary's Seminary, where he received formation. The text comes from Psalm 109.
