On the side close to the Baptistery are the four Greek Doctors, or teachers of the Church, so called because they wrote in Greek.

Saint Gregory of Nazianzus was bishop of Constantinople. His panel shows him carrying the Bible and a Greek-type crosier. The vestment in the upper right corner is worn about the waist, hanging from the right side, by bishops of the Eastern Church.
Saint Basil the Great is shown holding the Greek church in his hands, because he was helped the Church fend off the Arian heresy concerning the true identity of Christ and defended the divine personality of the Holy Spirit. He also built a vast series of structures.
The panel of Saint John Chrysostom (his name means "golden-mouthed") shows him preaching, a gift for which he was well known. It also depicts a chalice, representing the priesthood, because he is noted for his writing On the Priesthood. At the base of the chalice is a bible, because of his reputation as  an interpreter of the scriptures.
Saint Athanasius is shown with a symbol of the Blessed Trinity, whose true nature he vigorously championed. As bishop of Alexandria, he was the Arian heresy's greatest opponent.

"If the Son is a King, the Mother who begot Him is rightly and truly considered a Queen and Sovereign." - St. Athanasius

The panels in the central part of the narthex are an invitation to Mass.
They reflect the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Let's look at these now.
