The facade is approached by seven steps;
seven was a perfect number in Hebrew numerology
representing God and, with the coming of Christ, the
number of sacraments instituted by Him. These seven
sacraments represent the focal point of all that goes on
here at the Cathedral. |
A scene of the Crucifixion surmounts the entrance, which is
simple in form and mirrored throughout the Cathedral. Touch
the crucifix way up top to see it better.
On either side of the arch, are the figures of the twelve
Apostles (Saint Paul replaces Judas Iscariot), each shown with
the instrument by which he met his death. The lowest statue on
each side is six feet high but an extra inch is added to each
subsequent statue to maintain perspective.
The central focus inside the arch is the giant
stone figure of Christ the Risen King of the Universe:
